Katie Martini, a girl with a guitar turned professional classical singer, recently traded the fast pace of Orange County and Los Angeles for a slower, quieter life in Anchorage, Alaska. With this change has come an intentional shift in her artistic life and a return to making her own music. The release of her first solo single, "Father Time & Mother Melancholy" is both her debut as a singer-songwriter, and the next big step of her musical journey.
Available now on all major listening platforms, “Father Time & Mother Melancholy” marks Martini's first (released) exploration into songwriting and a move towards discovering her artistic voice and vision. Those who like the rich harmonies and cinematic alt-pop feel of artists like Caroline Polachek, Kate Bush, Lana Del Rey, and WeyesBlood will likely connect to Katie’s songwriting paired with the production style of EMÆL‘s Emmanuel Ventura-Cruess.
This track is an emotionally devastating journey through themes of loss, hope, and grief connected to the passage of time. Martini's sensitive yet powerful vocals simultaneously blend with and pierce through an atmospheric soundscape full of sweeping sorrow and haunting beauty. "Father Time and Mother Melancholy" promises to resonate deeply with anyone who has ever grappled with the complexities of existence.

“At the end of 2020, after almost a year of (COVID-19) lockdown in Orange County, I packed all my belongings into my Kia Optima and drove to northern Louisiana to stay with my mom out in the woods for a while.” Martini reminisces, “It was the first time as an adult that I got to live away from a noisy city and live at a slower pace. In the stillness, I began healing from wounds left unattended by my busy life, and in the quiet, I started to hear myself. For the first time in years, melodies and lyrics drifted into my head, and as I walked between the trees, slowly, this song came to me.
“I want the listener to be left with some big feelings, whatever that means for them. I want them to go in feeling whatever they’re feeling and to be transported into their own vast emotional landscape. I want them to feel like they’re running, heart-pounding, in slow motion until they’re confronted by these two characters – and what lies beyond them.”
